National Night Out is celebrated throughout America as an annual “Give Neighborhood Crime and Drugs a Going Away Party". Raindrop decided to honor the night with a special event held at Raindrop Foundation's headquarters on Tuesday, October 6, 2015. The Turkish community and neighbors in the area showed their support by participating to make the evening a success. Raindrop volunteers prepared and served a delicious variety of barbecue, salads and desserts to visitors. Children had the opportunity to see the inside of a police car; and spent their time gleefully pretending to be officers of the law. The officers gave all the children police batches and stickers. They also provided brochures to the adults in attendance about crime prevention and child safety.
Sgt. Angelita Delarosa from Harris County's Constable Precinct 7 made a short speech reflecting the importance of the night and community partnerships. Following Sgt. Delarosa's speech, police officers and children huddled together to take a picture together in front of the stage.
The evening was a unique example on how to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. One that has inspired many families in the community to stand up and take a stand against crime.

Beautifully hand crafted goods promoted sales; proceeds went towards the donation. The monies were presented to Campus Principal Mrs. Allen in the presence of the entire student body and faculty at their weekly Friday Morning Assembly. Mrs. Kaya and Mrs. Cizmeci acknowledged, that SMSD's goal of providing exemplary education, to the growing numbers of children, whose primary language is other than English, must be applauded! The first Ladies Coffee Night of 2015, held on January 15th, was again a special night full of fun, valuable information, and social networking. This month's topic was Alzheimer’s disease and Kelly McCann, the Chief Program Officer at Alzheimer’s Association (Houston&Southeast Texas Chapter) made a very informative presentation on the topic and answered the questions from the audience.
The memory game and brain teasers, activities considered as preventive measures for Alzheimer disease, made the night both fun and challenging. Besides the delicious Turkish food, the participants were also served nuts and dried fruit as the examples of healthy diet to prevent the disease. Ladies also put their hands together to make blankets that will be donated to nursery homes. The night ended with nice conversations and memories while enjoying Turkish coffee. See you at the next Coffee Night with new topics and nice surprises…
