Citizenship Month Poetry Night has started with reception. Poetry lovers enjoyed light refreshments and socialized.
Susana McCollom was the master of ceremony of the evening. She is the Director, Ethnography& Workplace Chaplaincy at Institute for Spirituality and Health. Filiz Camuz, the executive director of Raindrop Women’s Association, welcomed guests and gave brief introduction of Raindrop Turkish House. Mahmut Gok, the executive director of Embrace Relief SW, talked about the current campaigns of Embrace Relief Foundation.
After the speeches, Usha Akella recited her poems from her last book. Her forth book, The Rosary of Latitude, has published recently. Her poems were very intense so the audience stand up and applauded her after she finished the first part of the reading. Mustafa Berktug’s music performance with ney flute carried the audience to another dimension. The last part of the program was the duet of Usha’s amazing poems and Mustafa’s authentic music. That was a big hit.
At the end of the program, Hatice Avsar, a polymer clay artist, presented Usha a custom made necklace. Usha signed her books and talked to poetry lovers after the program.
