RAWA Coffee Night Nov 2016

14918833 752317094916721 2563478521198276381 oRaindrop Women's Association (RAWA) hosted many distinguished Austin women on Friday, November 4, 2016, for the first Ladies Coffee Night of the 2016-2017 season.

The chair of RAWA's Austin chapter, Asiye Candas, organized the night and welcomed guests. She emphasized that RAWA depends on its volunteers, and thanked all the participants. Kahra Perrette was the emcee of the event.

At this Austin Ladies Coffee Night, Irnela Bajrovic of the University of Texas at Austin was the keynote speaker. Ms.Bajrovic i
s collaborating on research that could transform the future of Ebola prevention. She has gained wide recognition for her research on an oral method of vaccine delivery, which could help vaccinate larger populations in arid climates, such as Sub-Saharan Africa. After she completes her graduate studies, she plans to pursue a career at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Ms. Bajrovic shared details about her journey from Bosnia to the United States, and her work at the UT-Austin.  At the end of her talk, RAWA member Sueda Aslan presented Ms.Bajrovic with an appreciation award.

The program also hosted Zahra Shakur Jamal from AFFSA, the Asian Family Support Services of Austin. Mrs. Jamal called the attention to the perils of domestic violence and shared information about her organization’s support services for victims.

The Ladies Coffee Night also featured a  delicious Turkish dinner, social games, gifts and a short presentation about Asure Day, a holy event for Muslims around the world.

The night ended with the thanks and good wishes of the emcee.  A nextLadies Coffee Night is expected to be held in the second week of February 2017.

Here it is again, our spring festival!

We invite you all to taste and shop delicious home-made Turkish appetizers, dishes, pastries and desserts! Baklava will be served all day long, yes!

Turkish tea and coffee..  Will be fresh made and served in traditional cups! Turkish delights (lokum) along with the coffee!

Unique traditional art demonstrations.. Ebru (watermarbling) and caligrahy booths will be demonstrating during the festival!

It will be a great day for kids, too! So many games and activities! Jumphouse, pony rides, clown shows, face painting and cartoonist.. Ice-cream, popcorn, lemonade, cotn candy, apple candy, popsickles and more!

Traditional Turkish music and folk dances..

Home-made bazaar, craft booths, guest organizations and vendors.. Turkish jewelery, clay art and ceramics..

Save the Date for the 14th Annual International Festival of Language and Culture Southwest USA in Houston Texas.

iflctxRaindrop Foundation is happy to announce that 14th Annual International Festival of Language and Culture Southwest USA Gala will be held on Saturday February 6, 2106 from 2:00 pm. to 4:00 pm. at Hobby Center in Houston Texas.  The festival is an annual celebration and showcase for the diversity of linguistic talents from across the world. It is dedicated to cultivate and educate the youth and create a platform to share their cultural heritage with their peers around the world. It is our mission to rise on the wings of art and music and promote peace, love, and cultural encounters through the world.

Bastrop Fire Relief

There is a story in folklore about father Abraham.  Surrounded by fires of evil, his fate appeared certain.  Into this scene flew a little bird, with a beak full of water to drop on the fire.  Abraham thanked the tiny creature, but wondered what effect just a small gift of water would have on the fire.  The little bird chirped cheerfully, “It may not put out the fire, but I wanted you to know whose side I am on.”
