The 1st Statewide Turkish Olympiad hosted by The Raindrop Turkevi was held at UH Cullen Performance Hall on March 31^st, 2007.

Students from all over the sate of Texas competed in total 10 categories ranging from singing contests, poetry contests, presentation contests, talent contests, stand contests, and folk dance competitions to drawing contests are further divided into three levels of (6-12 grade Turkish language students), (k-5 grade Turkish language students) and finally fluent speakers residing outside of Turkey.

The winners of each category were awarded based on placement and first place winners will be sent to Turkey in representing the lone star state.

Since 2003, the Turkish Olympiad Association based in Istanbul , Turkey has worked in promoting the widespread usage of Turkish and with the goal of applauding the best Turkish students. Every year since the first Turkish Olympiad - five years ago, the number of participating countries has increased dramatically from 21 countries in the first year to 84 last year. Now, it is expected that over 100 countries will participate in 2007 Turkish Olympiad. (For more info click http://www.turkceolimpiyatlari.org )

In order to contribute to the mutually enriching relationship among Turkish Americans and their friends, as well as between the people of the United States of America and the Republic of Turkey , Raindrop Turkevi will continue to organize and support cultural activities such as this Turkish Olympiad.
