The 9th International Festival at Texas Southern University was held at the courtyard of the Jesse H. Jones School of Business on Wednesday, April 16th, 2008. The main theme of the festival this year was "Out of Africa". The festival included live music, food, fashion parade and many more other entertainments. The chief coordinator of the event Mrs. Hughes at TSU invited Dr. Osman Nal, an assistant professor of finance, from Turkey, to open a table to exhibit Turkish culture and cuisine. (April 16, 2008, Houston, Texas)
Dr. Nal was helped by Dr. Ibrahim Sumer and Mr. Ahmet E. Sonmez, both researchers at the University of Houston, as well as Mr. Ibrahim and Mr. Serkan, both ESL students at Rice University. The TSU student club SIFE provided its volunteers in the table to help Turkish friends. We would like to thank these students: Mr. Floyd Griffin, Mr. Matthew Cook, Mr. Gabriel, Ms. Hagans and Ms. Connyn, among the other TSU students. The Raindrop Turkevi graciously provided the event with handcrafts and other hand made traditional Turkish dresses, towels, headscarfs, socks, etc. The food belongs to D&R Fast food restaurant here in Houston. Mrs. Hughes, the program coordinator, expressed her deepest regards to those who helped with the Turkey exhibits and food. The event is every year on April and sponsored by TSU as an outstanding forum to celebrate our shared values and differences as a richness to celebrate. |
