September 8-9, 2007, Houston’s City Hall hosted the first ever Turkic Festival in Texas with participation over 7,000 spectators. The event’s major sponsor was Raindrop Turkevi, a Turkish non-profit organization that promotes Turkic cultures and heritage throughout their several branches within Texas. The Festival received a number of dignitaries, which included councilmen, Texas state representatives, and consul generals. Texas House of Representatives was represented by Representative Hon. Dr. Alma Allen who expressed her gratitude and excitement to be at a festival that featured many cultures forming the wonderful mosaic of Texas. City of Houston Mayor Bill White was represented by Councilman MJ Khan who appreciated the participation and the variety of the Turkic cultures which enrich the City of Houston. (September 8-9, 2007,HOUSTON ,TEXAS) Hon. Khan stated the very need of these kinds of activities and appreciated the works of Raindrop Turkevi to make this festival happen. Texas state board of education member and a councilman Lawrence Allen highlighted the significance of the event for its contribution to the City of Houston’s rich cultures and diverse community. Judge David Patronella, also a former state representative, said called the festival very timely and absolutely well planned. This event, he added, was fitting the very nature of Turkish hospitality with a warm Texas taste to it. The councilman-to-be Zafar Tahir greeted everybody with “Merhaba” (welcome) and congratulated everyone for being a part of this. The festival was also visited by the Kyrgyz ambassador to USA and Canada, Hon. Damira Alyshbaeva and the consul generals of Turkey, Hon. Atilla Uzer, Russia, Hon. Krill Mihailov, Spain, Hon. Miguel A. Fdez de Mazaramboz, Pakistan, Hon. G. R. Baluch, and Indonesia, Hon. Kria Fahmi Pasaribu.
