The evening’s program started with a welcoming speech by Nurcihan Uysal, the outreach director of Raindrop Turkish House. Ms Uysal pointed out that the cultural center aims to establish bridges and channels of dialog among people of different cultural backgrounds and help better understand each other and each other’s culture. Ms Uysal, also, gave some information about specific activities held by the cultural center. Later on Terry Phelps of OCU talked about how Galaxy Club was founded and expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to visit the cultural center.
Before the dinner with samples of Turkish cuisine was served, Dann May of OCU presented a magnificent slideshow about a trip he attended to Turkey that was organized by the Raindrop Turkish House. He considered his experience of meeting and getting to know Turkish people and various historical sites in Turkey as one that has improved his worldview significantly. After the guests had their dinners, Provost Dr. Patterson made a closing speech expressing his views about the importance of engaging with people from different cultures on a personal level in order to develop a sense of understanding and respect in a diverse community such as Oklahoma.
At the end of the event, two guests were awarded with special gifts from Turkey after a drawing among all the attendees.
