Oklahoma City February Coffee Night

february_2009_026.jpgThis month's coffee night was a great success. Over 50 ladies in Oklahoma City area gathered around the tables of love and friendship. The theme of the event was love and Rumi, the 13th Century brilliant mystic from Turkey who is now one of the most widely read poets in America.

The keynote address was given by the Hon. Susan Savage, Secretary of State. Madame Secretary presented her views on her trip to Turkey. In January she and her daughter had taken a trip to Turkey organized by the Raindrop Turkish House. Savage emphasized

the strategic location of Turkey and its importance for building peace in the region. Impressed by Turkey and Turkish people's hospitality, Savage said: "In Rumi's poems you can find the pure love toward humanity as it has been experienced in Turkey for centuries." Savage ended her remarks with a beautiful poem by Rumi: "From the heart of the lovers, blood flows like a vast river. Our body is the windmill and love, the water. Without water the mill cannot turn."

Representative Anastasia Pittman, also delivered a talk at the night. She stirred the audience with her joyful remarks about love and friendship. She stressed the importance of reaching to others and building new friendships. One of the highlight of the night was presentation about Rumi's life and works. Over the course of the great Turkish meal, the guests from all different backgrounds enjoyed wonderful conversations. (February 7, 2009, Oklahoma City, OK)
