HOUSTONIANS! Don’t miss out on this annual cultural event. Fill your weekend with music, fun and food at TURKIC CULTURES & CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL .Raindrop Turkish House is holding its second annual Turkic Cultures and Children’s Festival on November 1st and 2nd at Hermann Square, in front of Houston’s City Hall (900 Smith St, Houston TX 77002 ). We will be celebrating the rich heritage of many Turkic and sister nations including Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Raindrop Turkish House promises an authentic Turkish weekend that is sure to please the eyes, ears and tongues of participants young and old. KIDS: Activities and treats include the Shadow Theater, clowns, storytelling, coloring, face painting and games as well as Turkish delight, special Turkish waffle treats, ice cream, popcorn, cotton candy and much more. ADULTS: Enjoy live performances of Turkic folk dances, authentic Turkic and Sufi music, Turkish rock music and the Ottoman Military Band. Also on display will be traditional Ottoman and Rumi Tents, as well as artistic demonstrations of water marbling, calligraphy, illuminations and ceramic art. The experience of shopping for Turkic treasures such as hand-made ceramics and pottery, oriental rugs, throws, bags, decorative pillows, traditional jewelry and handicrafts is not to be missed. EVERYONE: Enjoy the flavors of rich Ottoman Turkish cuisine. Sample gourmet food, including kabobs, Doner (literally “turning roast”) sandwiches, stuffed grape leaves, various pastries, vegetable and meat dishes, desserts, baklava, Turkish delight, apricots, hazelnuts, and figs just to name a few. Excite your taste buds with some popular Turkish culinary delights, have a slice of our unique ice cream or simply sip a cup of tasty Turkish coffee. A festival-goer last year commented, “I wouldn’t get to see, watch and taste this much all in one day even if I visited Turkey. It was so educational, entertaining and tasteful for me, my husband, and for my kids.” In 2007 the festival drew over 7,000 Houstonians. This year Raindrop Turkish House is expecting over 20,000 visitors to Turkic Fest. Raindrop Turkish House is a non-profit educational, charitable, social and cultural organization founded by Turkish-Americans in Houston in 2000. The organization now operates in six states including Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Louisiana.
