The Turkic Cultural and Food Fair : Public Day
fest17 Raindrop Turkish House, organized the Turkic Cultures Food and Children’s Festival on Friday and Saturday November 4-5, 2011. At Turquoise Center, in Southwest of Houston City to celebrate the rich heritage of such Turkic sister nations as Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan and Bosnia. Turkic Fest-2011 promises to present an authentic weekend which was please the whole family’s eyes, ears and tastes. The festival is organized to display all aspects of the Turkic cultures and to revive artistic and cultural traditions, hence contributing to Houston’s celebration of its cultural heritage. It was an authentic weekend for the whole family; pleasing the eye, ear and tongue. Some of the activities include but are not limited to breathtaking performances of Turkic folk dances, exquisite samples of Turkish and Mediterranean cuisines, colorful exhibitions.

The Turkic Cultural and Food Fair : School Day

The first day of Turkic Cultural and Food Fair was a school day. Over 1500 students from different ISDs and school systems visited the fair. When student groups arrived at the Turquoise Center, volunteer tour guides welcomed them and walked them through the facility. They first listened to a brief presentation about Turkey in the Ottoman Ballroom. Next, they had a chance to see a variety of art pieces and demonstrations such as clay, calligraphy, ebru (traditional water marbling), wood art, glass and tile work.

Raindrop Turkish House College Station hosted Dr. Eddie Coulson, College Station ISD Superintendent

Raindrop Turkish House in College Station/Bryan hosted Superintendent Dr. Eddie Coulson, College Station ISD for a presentation with the topic "The State of Public Education in the US, Texas and College Station. He reviewed the history of American public education and some of its unique attributes.Dr. Coulson shared some demographical statistics about the College Station ISD and Texas. Dr. Coulson also talked about preparation for the new high school. He answered several questions from the audience. At the end of the presentation, Dr. Coulson was presented a gift of appreciation. After the presentation the guests had a chance to taste delicious Turkish food and get to know the members of the Turkish community.

Turkic Cultural and Food Fair is on the way! We will be celebrating the rich heritage of Turkic culture in Turquoise Complex on Friday November 4 from 10:00 am. to 6:00 pm and Saturday November 5 from 10:00 am. to 9:00 pm.
