We are deeply saddened by the loss and the damage because of the Typhoon Haiyan. Our hearts and thoughts go to all of those who were affected by the Typhoon but people need more than that. Typhoon Haiyan struck Philippines on Friday, November 8th with a wind of 200 mph, leaving the country in a devastating condition. It has received reports that around 10000 people have lost their lives and it is the most powerful typhoon that has fallen.

We are deeply saddened that the town of West, Texas, a small town just outside of Waco, was devastated by an explosion at a fertilizer plant on April 17th. More than 160 people were injured as dozens of homes and buildings were destroyed. Residents are being evacuated because officials are worried that another tank at the facility might explode.
Our hearts and thoughts go to all of those who were affected by the explosion but people need more than that.

Hurricane Sandy Victims Need Your Help Immediately

Hurricane Sandy that is the largest Atlantic hurricane on record is a tropical cyclone that severely affected Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States on October 29, 2012.The cyclone brought a destructive storm surge to US East Coast , flooding numerous streets, tunnels and subway and cutting off, especially Zone A areas near waterways which were issued evacuation orders. Severe damage occurred in New Jersey, especially in the communities along the Jersey Shore. According to the records, hurricane-force winded as high as 90 miles per hour (145 kph).

President’s Message about the Earthquake Help Campaign

On Sunday, October 23, 2011 a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 hit the eastern part of Turkey. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the province of Van, impacting the provincial capital Van, and nearby towns. The biggest impact was in Ercis a town with a population of around 75 thousand.

Right after the earthquake happened, the initial news was that it only impacted a few dozen buildings. However, as time passed, we learnt that the reality was far more disastrous than that. In fact, as of Thursday, October twenty seven, 576 people were killed, 2.608 people were injured, and 187 people are rescued.

Turkish people need your help! Strong Quake Shakes Eastern Part of Turkey

At 1:41 p.m. (5:41 a.m. CT) on Sunday, October 23, a quake with a magnitude of 7.2 hit Van province of Turkey near the border of Iran.

According to TRT, state-run network, 59 people were killed and 150 were injured in Ercis. 25 people were also killed in provincial capital also named Van. One other person was reported dead in Bitlis. However, officials fear that 1000 people may have been killed by the earthquake. We have received many calls and emails from the community expressing sympathy. We are very saddened by this disaster and extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May God comfort them at this difficult time.

Pakistan is battling monsoon rains that have affected 5 million people and killed 300, a toll that is likely to rise with fresh downpours forecast for the coming days. Reports are that, the floods are bigger than last year's calamity that affected 20 million Pakistanis, left 2,000 dead and inundated one-fifth of the country. Raindrop Helping Hands is happy to announce that your kind donations reached Africa to give those people suffering from drought and starvation a break.  During the campaign, $129,327.83 was raised with your kind and generous donations. We thank you for your donations. Raindrop Helping Hands volunteer, Yusuf went to Africa to deliver your donations to Somalian refugees on the border of Somalia and Kenya. He used about 48 thousand dollars of the raised amount to provide the people with food.

Ethiopian and Somalian children are dying from starvation and Raindrop Helping Hands invites you to support them. 

African people have been displaced because of the drought. There are more than 400,000 Somalian refugees staying in the Dadaab Camp near Kenya and the number is increasing.

Recently, Adrian Edwards, the Official Representative of the UN stated that the Dadaab Camp is the world's largest refugee camp.

The only hope of survival is the food and water

at refugee camps which is given to one of every four refugees who left their hometown. According to the UN report, two million children are undernourished and in order for them to survive very urgent support is needed.

Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Donation Delivered at Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Center

100_3095Raindrop Helping Hands and Houston-Istanbul Sister City Association launched a donation campaign for the massive Earthquake and Tsunami disaster that happened in Japan in March.  The amount that was collected through the Helping Hands account was delivered to the Acting Consul-General of Japan Mr. Takahiko Watabe and the Treasurer of Japanese American Citizens League Mr. Howard Lindsey. The check, which had an amount of over $22.000, was presented by Mr. Mehmet Okumus, president of Raindrop Turkish House and Mr. Ruhi Ozgel, president of Houston-Istanbul Sister City Association. The ceremony was held in Seljuks room of Istanbul Convention and Exhibition Center.

The fire lasted four days and is considered to be the worst in Israel’s history. At least 40 people were killed and dozen were injured as the deadliest forest fire in Israel’s history swept through the north of the country. The Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “ This is a disaster of unprecedented proportions.”

Donation was delivered to needy people from Burma

Mr. Halil Temiz, assistant director of Raindrop Turkish House went to Fort Wayne to deliver these donations to the newly arrived families from Burma. He stated that these people were really in need, and around 350 families received the donations. He also stated that these people said this is the largest amount of donation that they have ever received, and they were very thankful for these donations.
