Raindrop Turkish House cooks will present how to prepare "Kisir" (Bulgur Wheat Salad) and "Sekerpare" (Turkish Sugar Cookie) for you this week. A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6 hit eastern Turkey on Monday, killing at least 51 people and knocking down houses in six villages. The government's crisis center said an additional 74 people were injured in the quake, which occurred at 4:32 a.m. in Elazig province, about 550 kilometers east of Ankara, while most people were still sleeping. Raindrop Turkish House in El Paso organized the fourth one of Turkish Cuisine Cooking Class in spring semester. The participants not only took notes carefully about the Turkish food recipes but also helped to create masterpieces of Turkish food. Raindrop Turkish ladies presented how to cook "Lentil Pate" (Mercimek Kofte),"Turkish Rolls"(Acma) ,and "Baklava". At the end of the class, they all enjoyed the food together with us and had Turkish tea in a friendly atmosphere. Here are the participants' comments about the class and food: "I love this food, it is so good...I wish I could have more and more of this, really awesome Turkish food. Thank you, Nicole, age 10", "Delicious rolls tasted well,baklava tasted awesome!", " What a wonderful experience..Thank you for sharing!", "Wonderful food and excellent instructors. I am very excited about the next class.", "I have enjoyed all the plates. They were delicious, thank you for sharing your culture with us.","Very good! On February 20, 2010; Bluebonnet- El Paso had their official “Open House”. There was a theme of Willy Wonk through out the center. Activities for the Open House began with a ribbon cutting by the supervisor Yakut and two of the children enrolled. Other activities included a presentation by the preschool and pre-kinder Ump Lampas, a power point presentation on what the children in each classroom do and learn. Everyone was given an opportunity to participate in a “Golden Ticket” raffle. The golden ticket was rightfully hidden in miniature chocolate candies. Prizes included 25% and 50% off one week’s tuition and a gift certificate to Toys R Us. Parents, family members and other guests were able to visit each classroom, talk to the teachers and see what sets us apart from any other facility in El Paso. All guests enjoyed lunch and a time of fellowship with other Bluebonnet families and staff while their children enjoyed our new playground equipment and a rented jumping balloon. Raindrop Turkish house hosted February Coffee Night on Saturday, Feb 20 The topic of the night was role of the mother in the development of the child caracter. In addition to fun activities, delicious Turkish food and coffee was served. Raindrop organizes monthly Coffee Night programs which aim to create a friendly atmosphere to mix people from different cultures. Come enjoy Turkish hospitality, mix with Turkish people in a nice environment with lots of fun activities and delicious food.
