Turkish-American Community Got Together to Celebrate the Eid(Ramazan Bayrami) |
On Saturday, October 13th, Turkish-American community got together at Grand Plaza Hotel's Sam Houston Ballroom to celebrate the Eid (Bayram) organized by Citadel Foundation and Raindrop Turkevi (Turkish Cultural Center) . Around 1000 attended and imam Mustafa Yigit delivered his moving sermon both in English and in Turkish as well. Festivities followed by a delicious breakfast on site and all children present were gifted by being invited to the stage. Many "bayram" traditions were also cherished, such as door to door visit of children for candy and money, visiting elderly and each other in the houses at the expense of having stomach ache from all the sweets and baklava that was consumed. Non-Turkish brothers and sisters also enjoyed this lively celebration such as Ibrahim, from Yemen, said this was the best Eid he ever had in the US.

Turkish-American, Pakistani-American, Indonesian-American communities as well as the dignitaries that included Congressman Al Green, Mayor Bill White, Council Members Sue Lovell and MJ Khan and 8 different consul generals of respective countries.

HBSCA and Raindrop Turkevi Organized an Iftar Dinner |
 Houston Baku Sister Cities Association and raindrop Turkevi held an iftar dinner for Azerbaijani and Turkish Community.As you may know, for the Muslims in our society, this is the holy month
of Ramadan which entails fasting, praying, and helping people in need.
Besides, teaching one self-control, strength of will and insight into
the plight of the poor, it is also a wonderful time to get together for
the socalled IFTAR ritual to break the daily fast with friends and
family.
In keeping with this tradition, the board members of the Houston Baku
