Turkish Olympiad Texas Finals which will be held at Hobby Center - Sarofim Hall
on Saturday April 3, 2010.
Students
will compete in total 8 categories ranging from Turkish language contests,
singing contests, poetry contests, talent contests, stand contests, art
contests and folk dance competitions to Turkish Cuisine contest.

A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6 hit
eastern Turkey on Monday, killing at least 51 people and knocking down houses
in six villages. The government's crisis center said an additional 74 people
were injured in the quake, which occurred at 4:32 a.m. in Elazig province,
about 550 kilometers east of Ankara, while most people were still sleeping.

Census-2010
is around the corner. As Raindrop Turkish House, we would like to inform you
about Census 2010.
Census Forms will rrive in March in your mail
boxes! Fill them out, mail them back! It's Easy, It's Important, It's Safe!
The 2010
Census aims to count all U.S. residents-citizens and non-citizensalike.
Why do we
have a Census?
The U.S.
Constitution requires it. The Census determines representation in the U.S.
Congress. Census numbers are also used to allocate federal and state funding
and redraw legislative boundaries. The public and private sectors use the
numbers for many different planning needs.
When do we
complete and return the census questionnaire?
The
questionnaires will arrive in your mail box in mid-March, 2010. After
completing the form, you should mail it back to the Census Bureau by Census
Day, April 1, 2010.
Who should
complete the Census form?
The head of
household should complete the form on behalf of every person living in the
residence on April 1, 2010, including relatives and non-relatives.
Raindrop Turkish House and Institute of Interfaith Dialog held the first Turkish Coffee Night of the New Year. This spectacular event drew more than eighty people to the Raindrop Turkish House from Oklahoma metro area. The theme of the program was "Love and Rumi," 13th century renowned poet who lived in Turkey. The program started with dinner and auction for Haiti. Many authentic Turkish artifacts including ceramic plates, coffee cups, calligraphy frames, and carpets were on sale to raise help for Haiti earthquake victims. Mehri Ogneva, Administrative Assistant of the Raindrop Turkish House welcomed the guests on behalf of the Raindrop Turkish House. (February 5, 2010, OKC, Oklahoma)
Raindrop Turkish House in Collaboration with Houston Independent School District organized the Award Reception and Ceremony of First Annual Art and Essay Contest with the theme “Alliance of Civilizations”. The program started with the reception in the lobby of Turquoise Center and the students, parents, teachers, and administrators from HISD enjoyed delicious Turkish food. The award ceremony started with the Mayor of Houston Annise Parkers` opening proclamation .After that the president of Raindrop House Mr. Mehmet Okumus stated that we aim to develop young generations ambitious for the ideas of peace friendship and fraternity with these projects. Mr Mehmet Okumus also added that we had a great honor to have this project with a talented education institution which is the first in Texas and the seventh the biggest education institution in United States.
Mr Lawrence Allen who is the member of Texas State Education Ministry of Board joined the art and essay award ceremony on behalf of Texas Schools.
Texas Representative Alma Allen, Honorable Consul General of Turkey Akil Oktem, and Dr. Lynn Mitchell from University of Houston presented the awards to the students.
The art and essay award ceremony came to an end with exchanging the plagues between the two institutions with the idea of coordinating a peace and friendship bridge between the countries. (January 29, 2010 Houston,Texas)
