Assembly of Turkic American Federations gala draws huge crowd

gala.jpgA reception held in Washington, D.C., by the Assembly of Turkic American Federations, gathering six major federations representing the thriving Turkic-American community in the US, was attended by seven senators and 53 congressmen among hundreds of well-wishers. The reception was held on Wednesday at the Willard InterContinental Washington, bringing ambassadors, directors and representatives of Turkish, Turkic and Eurasian peoples together with members of the US Congress, legislative directors and legislative assistants for foreign policy. US senators Richard Lugar, Robert Casey, Frank Lautenberg, Jeff Bingaman, Roger Wicker, Mark Warner and Kay Hagen were present at the event. Observers said that this many senators have never attended an event organized by Turks in the US before. Turkish Ambassador to the United States Namık Tan also attended the gala. The Turkish Parliament was represented by ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) deputies Vahit Kirişçi, Mehmet Şahin, Mustafa Ataş, Mehmet Ceylan, İbrahim Hasgür, Alev Dedegil, Hacı Hasan Sönmez and Mehmet Çerçi. Officials from the assembly said nearly 700 guests attended the gala. Our president represented Raindrop Turkish House in the reception.
 

Oklahoma City Raindrop Turkish House Organized Second Turkish Festival

On May 1, the Tulsa Raindrop Turkish House held its second  annual Turkish Festival. Nearly  seven hundred Oklahoma cites came out to enjoy the free cultural Event. Everyone had a chance to try Turkish food, see handmade crafts, watch folk dances and learn about Raindrop Turkish House and Oklahoma City's Turkish community. Following the opening, the crowd was delighted by dancers from area schools who have learned some of the traditional folk dances from Azerbaijan and Turkey. Throughout the day, the student dancers continued to perform.

 Raindrop Turkish House hosted Robert Scott, Texas Commissioner of Education. Raindrop president Mehmet Okumus and some other members of the Turkish community also attended the meeting. After having a dinner, Dr. Guner Arslan made a presentation about the Raindrop Turkish House. The commissioner and the members of the Turkish community discussed ways to increase Turkish language education in Texas.

Passport to Turkey

turkish_house_turkey.jpgRaindrop Turkish House hosted distinguished guests from Leadership Houston for Passport to Turkey Program on Thursday April 29, 2010. The program started with the tour of the Turquoise building. Our president had a welcoming speech and said that the mission of Raindrop Turkish House and the mission of this program perfectly matched. We, as the Turkish community, hope that this passport program will be a start for new area of collaboration with the Houston Leadership Organization. Consul General of Turkey Honorable Akil Oktem presented Turkey facts power point presentation. The program continued with the reflections of Turkey Trip participant of Dr. Fena Garza, president of HCC. History and Culture presentations were very enlightening. Turkish American Chamber of Commerce presented business opportunities between Texas and Turkey. Houston Folkdance group performance was amazing. Guests also had the opportunity to visit Houston Blue Mosque. Leadership Houston guests enjoyed the delicious Turkish food with the live Turkish music. The night was over by exchanging the appreciation certificates and the group photo in front of Turquoise building.

TURKIC GALA RECEPTION

turkic_gala_reception.jpgAssembly of Turkic American Federations will proudly present its opening Gala Reception on Wednesday May 12th, 2010 between 6:30 pm. and 09:00 pm. in the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in DC. The assembly of Turkic American Federations is organized as a broader umbrella organization for federations and similar entities like Raindrop Turkish House.

Turkish Festival by Tulsa Raindrop Turkish House

 On April 24, the Tulsa Raindrop Turkish House held its first annual Turkish Festival. Nearly a thousand and five hundred Tulsans came out to enjoy the free cultural Event. Among the many visitors were State Senators Tom Adelson and Sean Burrage, Tulsa Representative Dan Sullivan, County Commissioner Karen Keith, City Councilor G.T. Bynum and many other distinguished guests.  Everyone had a chance to try Turkish food, see handmade crafts, watch folk dances and learn about Raindrop Turkish House and Tulsa's Turkish community.
